Description

This is a distinct and elegant coffee with complex flavor notes in a light to medium body.  It is unaggressive and supremely drinkable.  Experienced cuppers will recognize the quintessential Ethiopian profile straight away.  Tea lovers might find the gateway to coffee obsession.  Both will be satisfied with their cup.

We find it to be especially open to a pour-over.  But whether you prepare it our way, your way, or venture to experiment … this roast will deliver a terrific coffee experience.  How about a blond espresso latte?  Be the barista.

The Flavor Profile

TASTING NOTES

First notice the aroma from your grinder. Look for floral notes of jasmine and herbs with a sweet caramel backdrop. The aroma transfers beautifully to the cup with grapefruit and other citrusy notes adding brightness. We find hints of popcorn, black tea, and brown sugar.

The Story

Coffee’s genesis was in Ethiopia more than a millennia ago and we are so grateful. Legend has it that a goatherd named Kaldi found his flock animated, energized, and up all night around a certain tree fruited with red berries. Voilà! Raise a cup to Kaldi.

Keyon Mountain Farms is a family-owned production that cultivates heirloom beans and handles the post-harvest milling to prepare coffee for export and roasting. The coffee is wet processed which means the cherry and mucilage layer are fermented in water for a few days before the coffee is spread on raised beds for drying in the sun. The result is complex, bright, and compelling.

We note that our import partner has done the right thing in this region and it's why we feature this coffee. They have exceeded the standards of fair-trade practices to ensure that the producer can continue to cultivate exceptional coffees and invest in important infrastructure. We feel good about offering this coffee and hope you will feel the same about your purchase.
