This August, let El Padre's "Midsummer Nights" coffee transport you to the highlands of Kenya's Thika District with our latest bean drop. This light, or as we like to call it, "blonde" roast, showcases the exquisite Kenyan Thika Karatu beans, emphasizing their full spectrum of vibrant and tangy flavors. Designed for those eager to explore the subtle complexities of a lighter roast, "Midsummer Nights" promises a refreshing twist on your coffee routine.

THE FLAVOR PROFILE

TASTING NOTES

"Midsummer Nights" is a celebration of high-altitude perfection. Our roast highlights a delightful array of flavors from the Karatu Coffee Factory. Experience the initial spark of cinnamon sauce, woven seamlessly with the tart brightness of green grapes and the lush sweetness of peaches and cream. As the coffee cools, the crisp essence of pomegranate seeds emerges, creating a tangy and vibrant finish. This coffee fully captures its dynamic range, from juicy dark fruits to complex baking spices, all underlined by a focused sweetness reminiscent of demerara and sucanat sugars.

The Story

The Karatu Coffee Factory, established in 1965, stands near Gatundu town in Central Kenya. Not merely a mill but a vital community hub, Karatu operates as a cooperative, supporting its members from the villages of Karatu, Gitwe, Kibiru, and Kigaa with more than just coffee processing. It provides crucial access to markets, capital for farm improvements, and agronomical supplies, reinforcing sustainable practices. Located at an elevation of about 1890 meters, adjacent to the Rwabura river, Karatu also emphasizes environmental responsibility, using river water for processing and managing waste water conscientiously to prevent river pollution.
